Amateur Astronomy Day

National Amateur Astronomy Day

The National Amateur Astronomy Day is an annual theme day for astronomy as a recreational hobby. Amateur Astronomy Day is held nationally in September around the autumn equinox (e.g. 21.9. from 7 PM in 2024).

Local astronomy clubs and individual astronomy enthusiasts from different parts of Finland present their activities and organize events related to astronomy.

Tampereen Ursa will have an open house and we will showcase various aspects of recreational astronomy from board games, books and meteorite collecting to observational astronomy and astrophotography. We will showcase different telescopes and binoculars, and give you advice if you are interested in purchasing equipment for yourself. We will also answer any questions the audience might have about astronomy. After dark, we will use our telescopes for stargazing if the weather permits. During cloudy weather we will show virtual night sky in our auditorium.

The event is free and open to everyone. Welcome to get to know the versatile world of amateur astronomy!
